Discover the Alicante, Costa Blanca South

The Vega Baja region is on the border of the Alicante and Murcia provinces with its main towns being Torrevieja and Orihuela which have a large British and foreign population all year round.

The coastal areas in particular attract a lot of European expatriates and there are several golf courses and tennis clubs, while most towns have their own sports centre and public outdoor pool (for summer months).

Boat hire, jet skis, fishing and mini cruises are amongst the many maritime attractions.

The Vega Baja area tends to speak Spanish rather than the local dialect of Valencian, something which will also usually be reflected in schools and at town halls. English will be widely spoken although far from universal, especially away from the tourist hotspots.

As well as the beaches the climate is a major draw for many people who choose to relocate to this part of Spain, with over 300 days of sun a year and mild winters.
